As a builder, we are all too aware of the potential problems and concerns that may arise during the construction process. In addition to making sure the foundations and structures are built properly, one area that often gets overlooked, or at least does not get paid enough attention, is the flashing and weather-resistant barriers.
There are a plethora of products and systems that all claim to be the best or the easiest. However, there tend to be issues in the field with long-term performance, tears, over-driven nails, improper lap, incomplete installations, other trades compromising the system after installation, and so on. We know because we have studied and used most of these systems, and we have gone to great lengths to keep from making many of these common but avoidable mistakes.
In our efforts to set the bar higher than simply the bare minimum requirements, we have implemented Enviro-Dri, a fluid-applied system made by Tremco Barrier Solutions, into our building projects that has allowed us to enjoy great success in its performance. This method creates an uninterrupted membrane that is permanently adhered directly to the sheathing. No need for mechanical fasteners creating multiple penetrations. No more torn seams; just an effective seal that keeps water out while also allowing vapor to escape enabling a drier building.
All of this adds up to a more comfortable and energy-efficient home that is less likely to develop mold and mildew problems behind your walls.
Orange Construction is fully trained and set up with the proper equipment to handle and apply this material. Not only do we incorporate these products and methods on our own projects, but we also work with other builders as installers to contribute to the performance and success of their projects.
